Fairfax County homeowners considering rooftop solar currently have a local program worth investigating.
Fairfax County is promoting Switch Together, a group-buying program operated by Solar United Neighbors.
Instead of every homeowner independently shopping for a solar installer, participating homeowners are grouped together and installers compete for the business.
The program can include:

• Battery-storage options
• EV-charger options
• Vetted installers
• A free, no-obligation solar recommendation
The current registration deadline is November 18, 2026.
Registration does not obligate a homeowner to purchase a solar system.
Fairfax County residents can also use the Fairfax Energy Compass, which provides free assistance with home-energy questions, available incentives, efficiency improvements, and contractor resources.
One important change:
The previous federal residential solar tax credit is no longer available for new qualifying residential expenditures made after December 31, 2025 under current federal law.
That makes local programs, negotiated pricing, utility incentives, and property-tax benefits increasingly important when evaluating the economics of solar.
